Posted on May 23rd, 2017
The San Diego County Fair -still commonly referred to as the Del Mar Fair- opens Friday, June 2nd. If you've ever been to San Diego and La Jolla in June you know that the County Fair is not to be missed. With concerts, performances, contests, rides, and MANY booths filled with food, jewelry, and other wares, there is something for everyone.
There are CONCERTS every day and this year the schedule is packed with an all-star line-up. Featuring acts such as the incomparable Patti LaBelle, country star Keith Urban, Switchfoot, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Leann Rimes, and performances by comedians Jeff Foxworthy and Trevor Noah. There will also be dance performances from both local and traveling troupes and associations. Check sdfair.com for the official line-up.
If you go for the ANIMALS then check out the livestock show, world of horses, or the goat milking demonstration. And what is a county fair without animal competitions? Check out the Charity Fair Horse Show, Extreme Team Rodeo, or Junior Livestock Auction. Of course, if you head over for the 4th of July you could catch some little oinkers in the Swifty Swine Racing Pigs!
Check out the variety of EXHIBITS AND ATTRACTIONS featured at the fair! They have everything: woodworking, agriculture, gems and minerals shows, photography exhibitions, wine nook, a kid's marketplace, law enforcement exhibition, a scavenger hunt, and SO MUCH MORE! Many of these are also part of competitions -including a number of pie contests- so you can check out the best of each category.
There will be all kinds of FESTIVALS AND SPECIAL EVENTS all summer long. There are the indulgent beer and wine pairing festivals, farm to table dinners, pie eating contests, and the like. There are also events appreciating other cultures with the Asian Festival, Filipino dances, Bollywood, and many more. Definitely check out the Halau Hula Kahea O Kalamaniana'ole -better yet, have fun saying it!
The food at the fair is delicious, the rides and games are fun and classic, and the entertainment is constant! The fair is open June 2nd - July 4th. It is closed every Monday but July 3rd and the first three Tuesdays. You can purchase tickets (including some multi-day passes) over the phone or at the gate.
